About SSC

(The text contained on this page can also be downloaded.)

Solano Soccer Club

SSC is affiliated with the Fairfield Suisun Youth Soccer League (FSYSL), which is affiliated with District VI of the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA). The purpose of the SSC is to offer an advanced level of soccer for select youth under 19 years of age for both Division 1 (comp) and Division 3 (Metro) teams. Playing on a club team offers the opportunity to play with and against the best players from other communities and to travel and meet players from other cities throughout California and beyond.

Definition of Division 1 and Division 3 Teams

Division 1 is intended to provide a level of play and commitment above Division 3 and is usually comprised of the Club’s most experienced players. Division 1 teams are age pure; U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 teams and are classified by their oldest player. Division 1 teams are not required to guarantee playing time for players.

Division 3 is intended to provide a level of play and commitment above Division 4 (recreational). Division 3 teams are typically composed of players with above average skill who may not wish to play at the Division 1 level. Division 3 teams are grouped in the following manner; U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19. Division 3 teams in each group are divided into divisions based on several factors including number of years playing together, previous year’s record and experience of the individual players. Division 3 teams must give players the opportunity to play on average 50% of every game.

Tryouts

Tryouts for players in the U10 thru U14 ages are typically held in March. U15 thru U19 ages are typically held in April/May. All players are required to attend, actively participate and complete a minimum of two scheduled tryouts for Division 1 and/or Division 3 teams in order to be considered for selection by a Club team. If a player is unable to actively participate due to medical reasons or other valid reasons they must complete a tryout waiver form to be exempted from active participation in a tryout. Players are encouraged to attend as many tryouts as possible to give coaches the opportunity to evaluate player skills and abilities.

District Playing Season

The district playing season starts the first Saturday after Labor Day and continues until the first Saturday in December. For Division1 boys U15 and older, league play occurs in the winter months following the conclusion of the boys’ high school soccer season. Each team will play half its games here in Fairfield and the other half away within District VI of the CYSA.
District VI is comprised of the following counties: Solano, Yolo, Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Colusa, Sutter, Yuba, Nevada, Sierra, Butte and Glenn.

Practices

Practices may begin as early as April (as soon as the team is officially registered) and may continue through January of the following year fro U12-U14 Division 3 teams and through March of the following year for U16-U19 Division 3 teams. Division 1 teams can expect to practice between 10 and 12 months per seasonal year. Teams generally practice two or three times a week, but some teams may practice more often. Be sure to understand the practice commitment of any team under consideration.

Tournaments

Division 1 and Division 3 teams also participate in tournaments during the course of the year. Tournaments typically occur June thru March and span over the entire weekend. Please check the team information sheets or ask the coach about the number of tournaments he/she will be applying for. Tournaments are held throughout Northern California and some teams may travel to Southern California or out of state to participate in tournaments. Distant tournaments and district games may require overnight stays and travel expenses are generally the responsibility of a player’s family. Be sure to understand the travel commitments of any team under consideration.

Other Commitments

What is expected of each player and his/her family will differ from team to team. Please review the team’s information sheet and/or speak to the coach to see what other commitments you will be expected to make.
