Solano Strikers win Santa Cruz Classic
Game 1: Aptos Tide - 0 vs SSC Strikers - 3
Game 2: SSC Strikers - 3 vs Scotts Valley Sting - 1 (Tough Team) We shot 50%
Game 3: Castro Valley Earthquakes - 0 vs SSC Strikers - 0 (Tough Team)
Championship Game: Fair Oaks Eagles - 1 vs SSC Strikers - 1 (Very Tough Team)
Played 2 - 5 min over time periods and tied then into PK's and the Strikers made all 5 shots winning the championship game!!
When I received the schedule for this tournament Coach Howard and I knew we had a great chance to get into the finals. I had my fingers crossed all weekend hoping that the Fair Oaks Eagle would get through the other flight. The Fair Oaks Eagles are known around District VI as a quality team at our age level. They won the Challenge Cup in our District last season as an older U-12 team. We played in the challenge cup also, but due our injuries we could not complete the tournament. They were in the other flight and beat the Folsom team that won our flight. They played in the Association Cup Tournament last year and finished in the top 16 amongst 54 U-12 Girls Teams. They are in the "E" level in our district in 3rd place with 2 wins and 1 loss. I have been sending our District Age Coordinator game recaps every week in an effort to get moved up to anywhere from "C to E" brackets, because I feel we belong up there not in "G" where we are now. This win gives us a great shot at him considering my request.
Everyone on the Strikers played at a very high level all weekend and everyone in there own way contributed to the teams success in each game during the tournament.
We played 3 very tough opponents this weekend and in the championship I thought they were by far the toughest. Our girls hit the ground alot in this game and were getting beat up from some of the physical play on the field, but they never complained about any of it and played through it all to come out on top. The Fair Oaks team really never had a clean shot on our goal and we had 3 good chances on their goal. There were some scary moments when balls were in our box, but the girls did a great job of collapsing in the box when this happened and our keepers played fantastic making sure the other teams knew who they were and that they owned our box.
Fair Oaks had to cheat to get their only goal and I was very disappointed in the center referee for letting that goal stand, because she had the same angle on that play as me. On a corner kick one of their players was set up in the middle of the goal. She waited for the corner kick to get into the air and she pushed one of our defensive players Nikki Castro in the back so hard it moved her about 2 or 3 feet off the play nearly knocking her down. That push opened up the area that they ended up scoring in. I yelled to the referee asking if that was legal to do and made eye contact with the Fair Oaks coach after I said it and he had a grin on his face because he realized that they just got away with something that he teaches their girls to do, but the Strikers had the last laugh!! We teach our girls to play tough, play hard, play physical, but we don't teach them to cheat.
Before the game started and at half time I told our girls that I didn't care if the won, lost or tied the championship game because in my book they were already winners. I told them this game was for them as a team to play for respect and pride. I explained to them if they played the game for those reasons they would leave the game with the other teams respect no matter how it ended. The Strikers stepped up a couple levels higher than I have seen they play before challenging everything on the field and really pressing the Eagles during the game.
We ended up playing to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation and played 2 - 5 min overtime periods where it ended in a tie and then went into PK's. It is very rare that all 5 players make all 5 PK's kicks to break a tie, but our girls did it and it was great to see.
Before these kicks our goalie Sarah Free looked very nervous. She actually had tears in her eye's because she was afraid she was going to let down her team mates. I explained to her the best way to approach in defending these shots. I told her not to be nervous and on every shot make an effort to dive one way or the other guessing where she thought the player was going to shoot. I told her it doesn't matter if she dives the wrong way. Yeh that might look a little embarrising if you dive the wrong way, but that one time when you guess the correct way it would give her the chance to make the play. Sarah did this on every shot and got her hands on two or three of them. This is not a fun time to be a keeper, but Sarah did a great job making plays on these shots!!
Solano Summer Classic: Aug 2nd & 3rd
Solano Strikers vs. Mustang Flash (Older U-14 Team)- Strikers won 2 -1. The score doesn't represent how much we had the ball on their side of the field and missed many shots on goal.
Solano Strikers vs. Rohnert Park Heat (Older U-14 Team)- - Strikers lost 2 -1, but we had three balls bounce off the post and two off the cross bar with 2 other point blank shots missed. No luck in this game. They had two shots and made both with one slipping through our keepers hands that should have been stopped.
Solano Strikers vs. Vacaville T-Bird Pride (Older U-14 Team)- Strikers won 3 -1 and just dominated the side of field. They had a couple of opportunities and made one. They are in the "E" division.
Solano Strikers vs. Walnut Creek Vortex (Older U-14 Team)- Strikers won the Consolation game 3 -1 again just dominating side of field.
Vacaville Shoot Out Tournament: Aug 16th & 17th
Solano Strikers vs. WESCO Shooters (A Mixed Age U-14 Team) - Strikers won 5 -0 and played keep away for the entire 2nd half.
Solano Strikers vs. Roseville Ambush (Older U-14 Team) - Strikers won 4 -1 where we dominate side of field again. They were a very tough team, but our girls play up when they play tough teams. They are in the "F" division team. The Ambush's only shot on our goal was a shot from a corner kick and they made it.
Solano Strikers vs. El Dorado Strikers (Older U-14 Team) - Solano Strikers won 6 -1 and we dominated side of field again. The ED Strikers are a "D" division and it didn't seem like we were being challenged. Their goal was their only shot and it was one that slipped through our goalies hand. A clean play and it would have been a shut out. Our girls played keep away for about 18 minutes of the 2nd half. If we had stopped that goal we would have been in the Championship game instead of the Greenhaven Panthers. We had scores equal to the Greenhaven Panthers against the same teams during the tournament and they are in the "A" division.
Solano Strikers vs. Elk Grove Strikers (Younger U-14 team) Solano Strikers won the Consolation game 1 -0, but again the score does not indicate how much we dominated side of field and we had many more shots on goal. They never really had a shot develop they only had one shot from a direct kick at the top of the box, but it missed high.
SOLANO KAOS WIN SHASTA SUMMER SHOOTOUT
Aug. 16, 17
The Kaos traveled to Redding this last weekend to play in the Shasta Summer Shootout, where temperatures were over 100 degrees.
The Kaos got off to a slow start Saturday morning losing to host Redding Missfits 0-3. It was an off morning for everyone on the Kaos as no played well at all. The team was disappointed at the end of the game with the way they had played. The team rarely gives up 1 goal in a game and has not given up more than 2 goals in a game in 2 years.
Saturday evening the Kaos’s next game was against last seasons State Champions, Rocklin Blue Angels. This was the team we were really looking forward to playing. The Kaos got a goal midway through the first half when Brianna Ortega crossed a ball in from the left side and Alyssa Orme found the back of the net. It was a battle back and forth the rest of the first half. In the second half the Kaos focused on keeping possession of the ball not allowing the Blue Angels to even get a scoring opportunity. The Kaos stuck to their game plan and won the game 1-0. Tyler Hoffman, Kailyn Murphy, Erika Kelsh, Ashley Mangini and Shelly Perez were outstanding on defense. It took a total team effort with everyone on the team playing at there best to win the game.
Sunday morning the Kaos played Red Bluff, winning 1-0. While the Kaos dominated the first half of play with 11 different players having shots on goal, they were unable to score. With 1 minute left to play in the game it looked like the game was going to end in a tie and then the Kaos had a series of 5 one touch passes, the last pass from Erika Bernal to Beanie Perez who had a volley shot finding the back of the net with 30 seconds left in the game. The win allowed the Kaos to advance to the Championship game.
Just 2 hours after the last game the Kaos got a rematch with the Redding Missfits in the championship game. Late in the first half Katie Whan took a corner kick which hit the near post and came back out into the box and Alyssa Orme made sure it found the back of the net. The Kaos lead 1-0 at half. In the second half the Missfits had 3 great scoring chances with long shots heading just under the cross bar but the Kaos goalie Haley Duncan timed her jumps perfect coming up with great saves each time. Late in the second half the Kaos did a great job of keeping possession again to hold off the Missfits and win the game 1-0. Everyone on the Kaos played a great game.

SOLANO STRIKERS
Posted 11/26
The Strikers played in the California Rush Thanksgiving Classic this weekend. The girls had another fantastic tournament taking 2nd place.
1st Game: Solano Strikers 4 - Roseville Spirit - 0
2nd Game: Solano Strikers 2 - Stockton United Heat 97 - 0
3rd Game: Solano Strikers 1 - California Rush Invasion - 0
Championship Game: Solano Strikers 0 - California Rush Cyber Rays - 2
In the 2nd game Ashlee LeCheminant suffered a broken femur as she attempting to score in a one on one play with the Heat's goalie. As she pushed the ball by the keeper she landed with all her weight on her right leg as the keeper was making a play on the ball she contact Ashlee's leg and her bone could not take the stress. This was a very difficult situation for all the girls and us as coaches. Ashlee was on the field for about 35 minutes while we were waiting for the ambulance to come and take her to the hospital. She was a trooper through the whole thing even though she was in a tremendous amount of pain. Our girls all rallied behind Ashlee in a attempt to continue winning in the tournament. The injury took place 10 minutes into the first half with the score at 0-0. I'm not sure how the girls stayed focused to win the game 2-0. Coach Howard and I had a very difficult time as coaches finishing this game, many times while trying to cheer on the girls we found ourselves walking away from the field simply thinking of Ashlee with tear welling up in our eye's. On Sunday morning we only had 12 players start the morning game and lost another player to a sprained ankle. We still pulled out a win 1 - 0 getting us into the championship game. In the championship game we only had 11 players and the California Rush Cyber Rays had a full team of 17. Even though the odds were against us to win this game our girls were still determined to pull out a tournament win for their fallen team mate Ashlee. The California Rush Cyber Rays are an "A" level team in District 6 and they are in 2nd place this season behind the Rocklin Strikers who won the U-11 Association Cup tournament last season, so this was a game we probably were not suppose to win. You couldn't tel our players that as our 11 players played one of the best games we have seen them play all year. We gave up a cheap goal on a corner kick with 2 minutes left in the 1st half. The girls played their hearts out in that first half and we had a couple nice plays in front of their goal, but didn't finish them in the net. In the 2nd half our keeper went for a ball that got behind our defense and fell down while making a play, two of our defenders stumbled and fell on top of her and then one of their players came in from about 10 yards away and dribbled the ball into the goal which was another cheap goal. We had a couple of more point blank chances before the end of the game, but just could not finish them. The SSC Strikers are a "C" level team in first place in our division this season and this weekend the girls learned that they can play with the "A" level teams. If we were at full strength in this game Coach Howard and I have no doubt it would have been a very different out come.
This season the Strikers have 19 Wins, 2 Losses and 5 Tie's for the season with the following tournament medal rounds (1st place, 2 - 2nd places and a 3rd place). Both of our losses this season were in Tournament Championship Games. We have scored 61 goals while only giving up 18. Last year at this time of the season we had 5 Wins, 13 Losses and 3 Tie's and didn't get into a medal round in 4 tournaments. We scored 14 goals while giving up 30.
SOLANO SEAHAWKS

The Boys U-11 "Solano Seahawks" just returned from an INTERNATIONAL tournament in Las Vegas Nevada with Great Results. Their first game started out against a NEVADA Power House the HEAT FC. Falling behind 1-0 early, the Seahawks came from behind with goals from Kyle Elledge and Cris Castro to win 2-1. Later that day, they faced off with an Arizona team known as Tucson TSA RED. Great defense coming from Omar Ibbara, Alexis Roman and Oscar Degado help contain the AZ team to one fluke goal. Goals came from Salomon Moreno and Jesse Hopp. These wins had the Seahawks tops in their bracket, 3rd overall and a ticket to the
Semi Finals. This was a match they weren't looking forward to. Set to play Jueventes CRS Elite (from Redwood City) the Seahawks were outmatched against the #1 U-11 boys team in AMERICA. With many injuries and only 10 on the field for most of the second half, the Seahawks fought hard but ended up loosing 6-0... but ended up 3rd Overall!!!

The Strikers took First Place in the Sonoma Halloween Classic this weekend.
1st Game: Solano Strikers 2 - Sonoma Extreme 0
2nd Game: Solano Strikers 3 - Roseville Spirit 0
3rd Game: Solano Strikers 2 - West Marin United 0
Championship Game: Solano Strikers 2 - Lamorinda 1
The team played fantastic team soccer the entire weekend and the scores in the final three games didn't not reflect the play on the field. We out shot the last three opponents at least 18 to 3, but just didn't finish very well in those games
The girls added a 1st Place WIN to our 2nd and 3rd we have already won in the previous two tournaments.

The Strikers are currently 10 Wins - 1 Loss & 4 Ties for the 2007 season.
The Strikers made it to the Championship and took 2nd place in our home tournament which is the only loss we had so far this season. In the SSC Classic we won 3 games and lost 1 scoring 15 goals and giving up 3.
The Strikers made it into the Consolation Game in the Rose City Invitational in Santa Rosa the weekend of September 8th & 9th. They only gave up two goals in that tournament and tied in our flight to go into the Championship Game. Unfortunately we lost the tie breaker because we would have won the tournament had we only gave up 1 goal. In that tournament we won 3 games and tied 1 scoring 15 goals and giving up 2.
Since then the Strikers have played 7 League games. They have Won - 4 Lost - 0 and Tied 3. In all three of they tied games we dominated the games, possession, field and numbers of shots on goal. These games were not even close, but since we didn't finish well in all three we gave the other teams an opportunity to stay in the game and they took advantage.
We have been accepted into the Sonoma Halloween Classic this weekend and into the California Rush Classic on Thanksgiving weekend.
It has been a very successful season so far for the girls. They have improved tremendously over last year.
We sent in the Ditrict Cup application asking to be in the Challenge Cup and I just mailed off the Association Cup applications this morning. If they continue to improve they should do very well in both of those tournaments as well.

We played at the Benica Old Capitol Classic this weekend. 2 flights with 4 teams in each flight. Our first game was against the host, Benicia Arsenal. We dominated most of the game with a 3-1 victory. Our second match was against Delta Force where we ended with a 2-2 tie. Although we were in control most of the game, and up 2-0 with less than 5 minutes left, Force managed to slip in 2 goals on a corner and a questionable offsides. Day 2 started off against the Heritage Park Soccer Club where we controlled the game from the first minute. We ended with a 4-0 win and found ourselves playing keep away for most of the second half due to goal restriction rules. This gave us 24 points and Home team advantage for the finals against the Sunnyvale Cyclones. This game was a very hard fought game with the cyclones possessing the ball for majority of the game. Seahawks struck first on a free kick going into the top right corner from 25yds from 25yds. out. With 5 minutes left in the match, the Cyclones slipped one by to tie the game at 1-1. This set us up for a 10min. overtime. In the first 3 minutes, the Seahawks were awarded another free kick from 30 yds out that was put over the goalies head and hit the left side net. We then went into full defensive mode and managed to pull out the 2-1 win for the U-12 boys 2007 Benicia Old Capitol Classic Championship. This is the second tournament in a row for the Seahawk being the champions. Not bad considering this team is a Pure Age U-11 team. No names were mentioned as goals came from 5 different players. This was truly a team effort and the team is really coming together nicely.

X-TREME
March 18
The X-Treme lost a close game today 2-1. We did not play our best game today when we needed to. I felt we were the better team today but they got the lucky bounce today when a shot deflected off someone and changed direction giving them their second goal. I am very proud of all my girls though for making it to the round of 8. They have all worked xtremely hard this season. Thanks for everyone's support of the X-Treme.
March 11
The X-Treme advanced to the round of 16 next weekend. We won all 3 games this weekend, 2-1 over San Ramon Impact, 7-0 over Synergy and 6-0 over Roosevelt Revolution. We got off to a slow start but finished strong. 13 of our 16 players had shots on goal with 7 players scoring.
BEARS & UNITED COMBINE FOR 4 WINS AT STATE CUP
Ripon, CA - The U15G Solano United Bears and the U14G Solano United Competitive girls soccer teams competed in the CYSA-N State Cup preliminary round this weekend. Both teams unfortunately drew top ranked clubs in their brackets and were unable to advance even with both teams posting 2-1 records. The girls represented Solano Soccer Club with each posting 2 dominating victorties and 1 tough loss each.
United Bears 5 Walnut Creek Azzure 1
The first goal was set up by a nice pass from Tori Buckley to Jenna Wilson who's great shot caught the keeper off balance and Alyssa Robles was there to knock in the rebound off the keeper. Cecilee Kidd had 2 goals, 1 unassisted and the 2nd coming off another keeper rebound. Julia Moore and Kayla Ried finished off the scoring. Ried's was a driving header off an excellent cross from Alexes Ramirez.
United Bears 0 Marin FC 2
The Bears hung tough against last year's State Cup Finalist Marin. Two late 2nd half goals sealed the Bears fate, in by far the most physical game of the year for the Bears. Unfortunately, the Bears had to battle a skilled, quality opponent, injuries and inexperienced officiating. Ka'ua Molina and Melissa Tong, Jacque Allen and keeper Christine Gilbertson all had an excellent defensive game.
United Bears 4 Sacramento United 1
Jessica Mendoza had a hat trick and Angie Dooley added a goal to close out the Bears season.
Solano United 5 Bullard FC 0
Katie Whan stated the scoring surge for United with a left-footed rifle shot from 25 yards that sailed into the upper right corner of the net. Gracie Correa added 2 goals and Kysta Caughman and Erika Bernal each had 1 a piece.
Solano United 4 Santa Cruz Breakers 1
Erika Bernal and Megan O'Dwyer had a goal a piece and Gracie Correa added 2 goals for United. Danielle Little and Michelle Giron played solid defense the entire tournament.
Solano United 1 Mustang Extreme 2
United had the similar duanting task of having to face an opponent from the top club in the nation. Danville Mustang put heavy pressure on United from the opening whistle and eventually scored before the end of the first half. The two teams played a fairly even 2nd half with Mustang adding another goal midway and Gracie Correa put in a goal for United on a direct kick from 26 yards. The Mustang will advance to the next round edging by United and ending United nice run at this years State Cup.
