FAQ

Q. How much travel time is involved with Metro or Competitive traveling teams?

A. Five of the ten League games are played “away,” and are typically no more than an hour drive from Fairfield towards the Sacramento metropolitan area. Tournaments are held throughout Northern California and they are open tournaments, so teams can apply to wherever they wish to play.

Q. How much does it cost to play Metro or Competitive soccer?

A. The cost is determined by the individual teams, depending on the number of tournaments for which they sign up. Uniform prices range between $115-$175, and team fees range from $100-$800 per year. This covers tournament entry fees, referee cost, field cost, team socials, etc. Many teams do fundraisers and solicit sponsors to reduce the out-of-pocket cost per family. Some teams’ fees are less than $100 per year. This is in addition to the Fairfield Suisun Youth Soccer League fee of $120.00.

Q.Who are the coaches?

A.Our coaching pool consists of local volunteer coaches who are licensed by a United States Soccer Federation affiliation. Our coaches teach children soccer skills while developing practical life skills, such as teamwork, commitment, respect and perseverance.

Q. How long is the season?

A. The season starts in September with ten League games. Five of those are played at Octo Field while the other five are in the District VI area (Sacramento area). The season usually runs through December. However, the Association Cup and the State Cup are played the following year from January through March.

Q. Do you play year-round?

A. Most teams begin practicing May or June in preparation for the season, which starts in September. Some teams elect to play year round but they do take breaks throughout the year. Check your team bio f or specific details.

Q. How much commitment is required?

A. As the level of play is higher in the Metro and Comp level, players and their parents must be committed to the game in terms of attending practice, games, and tournaments. The commitment comes in the form of time, effort, and funding.

Q. How do players get selected to the teams?

A. Tryouts are held in February and March for the younger age groups (up to U14 boys and girls) and in April and May for the older group (U16—U19 boys and girls). Tryout information is advertised in the local newspapers as well as on the Club site at www.SolanoSoccerClub.com.

Q. Is there financial assistance?

A. Yes, financial assistance is available on a competitive basis. In order to be considered, parents must submit proof of income and tax returns when registering their child.

Q. What happens at tryouts?

A. Our teams are formed through a player tryout process. Each player will be assigned a number. Players will be identified by that unique number during the course of the tryout. Coaches and evaluators will base their selections on player skill and athletic ability demonstrated during the tryouts. Players will receive notification of their tryout results after the conclusion of the last tryout session.

Q. May my child play other sports?

A. Yes, particularly at the younger age groups. During the spring and summer months especially, we understand that players may have other activities scheduled. During the fall regular season, coaches will expect players to be committed to their soccer team practices and games.

Q. Why should I or my child be interested in Club soccer?

A. The Solano Soccer Club program provides training and development to qualified players to assist them in advancing to play at the highest level of play available. Many high school and college teams are chiefly comprised of players who have demonstrated their ability through Club programs. If your child has progressed through recreational soccer and wants to take their game and skills to the next level, Solano Soccer Club can prepare them to go as far as they want to go.
